Why I Created Character Builders Academy
A Home for Minds Committed to Evolution
Welcome to Character Builders Academy!
I envision this academy as a sanctuary for courageous minds, a space where we come together to question, reflect, share, and grow. A place where we can explore what it means to live a fulfilling life, not by achieving more, but by becoming better human beings through the development of our character.
My Story
My name is Alma. For many years, I have worked as an adult educator, both in higher ed and corporate settings. My focus has been helping people develop the skills they need to face life and work with confidence. I have designed and implemented learning programs that have made people more competent, productive, and effective.
But along this journey, I noticed something quite unsettling: while people grew more knowledgeable and skilled, they didn’t necessarily grow wiser or happier. I saw people who could lead businesses brilliantly and achieve remarkable results, but who lacked the moral foundation to make their success meaningful. Not just for themselves, but for those around them.
The last straw for me was witnessing highly intelligent, skilled individuals behave unethically—even criminally—causing immense harm to others and ultimately to themselves. These weren’t failures of ability; they were failures of character.
The Missing Piece
It became clear to me that traditional education, with all its focus on knowledge and skills, was missing something essential. It wasn’t teaching us how to develop the most important part of our being: our character.
This realization was both painful and illuminating. I saw how the lack of character—expressed through a lack of virtuous behavior—had far-reaching consequences: lives lived on auto-pilot, fractured relationships, compromised integrity, and personal unhappiness, even for those who outwardly "succeeded."
It is astonishing to see what humanity can achieve when we apply our intelligence. We can discover scientific truths, invent technologies, and transform the world. And yet, so many of us fail to build lives of moral excellence, human flourishing, and personal peace.
My Commitment to Character Development
I realized I could no longer focus solely on creating knowledge and developing skills. Instead, I needed to focus on what truly elevates us: our character.
Character development is about cultivating virtues, and like any skill, virtues can be learned. Through observation, self-reflection, and consistent practice, we can grow into virtuous human beings: people who are aware of who we truly are, have a clear purpose, and contribute to creating a more just and joyful world.
I started this journey with myself, and I’ll be the first to admit that I’m still far from the destination. Every day, I have to make a conscious and deliberate effort to work on building my character, living more aligned with my values, and embracing the challenges life throws my way as opportunities for evolution.
What You’ll Find in the Academy
Life can feel overwhelming at times, especially when we face challenges and adversities that seem insurmountable. It’s easy to feel like these experiences are unique to us, but the truth is that they’ve been part of the human condition for millenia.
Thinkers throughout history have reflected deeply on these struggles, offering insights that remain profoundly relevant today. I’ll share reflections, stories, and best practices on how to develop character and live virtuously, presenting the wisdom of the past and the scientific knowledge of today in a practical way that is easy to digest and apply.
Theoretical knowledge is not enough. We need to turn these ideas into actions that become part of our being. That’s how character is built: through consistent reflection and practice.
I’ll be posting regularly and would love for this space to become a dialogue. I invite you to share your thoughts, questions, and experiences in the comments. Your perspective is invaluable because it is uniquely yours. Nobody in the history of humanity has lived the same life as you, and nobody ever will. That alone makes your voice extraordinary. Please share. I care deeply about what you have to say.
Tell me a bit about yourself in the comments. What would you like to get out of Character Builders Academy? If you have any questions or observations, I’d love to hear them! I’m here for you!
Let’s Build Character Together
And that’s why I created Character Builders Academy—to share this journey with others. We can transform our experiences into tools for becoming more evolved and fulfilled human beings. My mission is to guide you on a journey of learning and transformation, so together, we can create a world where everyone flourishes and contributes to the greater good.
So, I’ll leave you with this question: who would you be if you were certain you were living your best possible life?
This isn’t about where you are right now or where you've been in the past. We’ve all done the best we could with the resources we had at the time. What matters now is that we’re here—ready to learn and become.
Thank you for joining me in this journey. Let’s take life’s challenges, joys, and everything in between and use them as ingredients for building the best versions of ourselves through character development.

so fascinated to see how much heart and effort has been invested on this. big applause!
Alma, building character is a lifelong journey. It’s built on our experiences choices, and also self-awareness and reflection.
And it’s not about perfection is a mess some people think. I’m a “recovering perfectionist and overthinker” 😂.
I do strive every single day to be better than the day before, and sometimes even hour by hour, depending on the circumstance I do stay true to my values and morals.
Just wanted to drop by say hello and welcome to Substack 🤗
